Dr. Catherine Fike on behalf of her fellow school board member, Ken Alt, presents this YouTube video so that the public may be fully informed of the details of their proposed Southmoreland School District reorganization plan constructed to address declining student enrollment, unused space, and the economic downturn in the district.

Southmoreland School District entails the Scottdale Borough, East Huntingdon Township and environs in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Dr. Fike presented this PowerPoint presentation to the Southmoreland School Board at their voting meeting on September 13, 2012, NOTING THAT IT IS THE SCHOOL BOARD'S RESPONSIBILITY TO CONSERVE AND MANAGE THE DISTRICT'S FUNDING, PHYSICAL PLANT AND OTHER RESOURCES IN A PRUDENT AND RESPONSIBLE MANNER REINFORCED BY THE ADMINISTRATION'S RECENTLY STATED POSITION THAT IT IS NOT THE ADMINISTRATION'S CHARGE TO DO SO.

The Fike-Alt reorganization plan recommends a number of physical plant and staffing changes consistent with Pennsylvania Department of Education guidelines which will avoid added property tax burdens while making logical and needed adjustments and while maintaining a quality educational environment.

You may wish to view the YouTube video done at this September 13, 2012 voting meeting soon to be uploaded by the school district as well as the others over the last several months to experience the contentious nature of the interactions as minority school board members ask that their fellow board members and the administration to act per the charge of their offices to provide the most effective and efficient educational services in the most cost-conserving manner possible.
